Happy Pi Day

Pi Day is a celebration of the mathematical constant pi. Using the American dating system, this occurs on March 14 since 3, 1, and 4 are the first three significant digits of pi. The occasion is also sometimes observed on 22 July, a date chosen as pi can be approximated using the fractional value of 22/7.

To celebrate Pi Day, the Maths faculty sold party pies and apple pies at recess on Monday. There was also a vegetarian option of cheese triangles. The spirit of the occasion was enhanced by some mathematical attire. The photos show Mr Lord sporting his pi-rate t-shirt and Ms Sharma wearing a t-shirt featuring pi-zza.

The money raised from the sales was donated to Project Compassion.
