From the Environment Council - National Tree Planting Day

On Friday 29 July, students from Patrick’s College joined many schools in Australia in a national initiative to plant young native trees.

With land clearing in Australia and NSW still on the increase, this annual event coordinated by Planet Ark, with the support of local governments and Bushcare groups, aims to address the loss of native plants and the environmental issues that arise from this, such as loss of biodiversity and the impact on global climate.

At St Patrick’s, student volunteers from each homeroom, in Years 7 to 11, planted 50 small native trees or shrubs in the Reconciliation Garden. With the support of Mr Smylie, Mr Lord and Ms Boulatsakos, the girls worked enthusiastically as teams to ensure the seedlings were correctly planted, watered and mulched.
