Knitting Group Presentation to St Vincent De Paul

On 22 May, the Knitting Group presented 28 blankets to the St Vincent de Paul Society representatives, Mr Joe Magro and Mrs Jane Willoughby, during the whole school assembly. They were very appreciative of the donation as they had recently given out the last blanket from last year's donation. Our blankets do not go overseas but to the local Macarthur community and are distributed by the St Vincent de Paul Society.

The St Pat’s Knitting Group began in 2006 and over the last 11 years we have made hundreds of blankets for the less fortunate in our community. Each Thursday lunch we meet in the Library and knit squares which are later joined together into blankets. Mrs McCann, Mrs O'Brien and myself help the girls each week.  We are fortunate that many past staff from St Pat’s, such as Mrs Evans, Mrs St John, Mrs Mills and Mrs McLeod, and friend of the College, Mrs Johnson, come in each week to help us. The donations of squares from many of the grandmothers of the College help us to achieve the large numbers of blankets we do each year. We are always looking for new members and beginners are welcome. We keep knitting until Term 4.

We would also like to pay tribute to Mrs Maureen O'Brien who is retiring this week. She has been an absolute asset to the Knitting Group and volunteers her time to help the girls and to assemble many of the blankets. We are going to miss her company, wisdom and practical know-how on fixing up those dropped stitches!
