Year 9 Design and Technology - Art Deco Inspired Rings

Year 9 have recently been engaged in designing and making their own rings inspired by the Art Deco design style.

The process began by generating ideas using modelling clay and sketching to get the creative juices flowing. This was followed by carving the final designs in wax, which were sent to the foundry (Palloys at Marrickville) who used the 'lost-wax casting process' to cast the rings in silver. Upon their return, the girls then finished their ring by further sanding and polishing and some have applied a blackener to create the black silver oxide effects. The girls have done a wonderful job and I hope they will enjoy wearing the fruits of their labour!
